Anil Lamba talks about the world of finance, corporate training. A finance professional who writes and teaches. Meet Anil Lamba who heads his brainchild Lamcon India

A brimming centre of energy and enthusiasm, Anil Lamba seems to belong in his comfortable chair surrounded colourfully by memos and knick knacks, books, floppies, files and even a Marilyn Monroe sketch. Non plussed by the question we ask, ‘Tell me about yourself.", he hands you a resume. When you ask for more, he still doesn’t know what to say and so to get a clue asks you what to tell him about your life. As you begin rattling off your own life, realisation strikes. There’s something wrong here, he’s the one supposed to be interviewed and so you start again. So he tells you..

He’s a finance professional who teaches and writes. Heads a group of 5 companies of Lamcon Financial Management Services Ltd.
He had started after completing his law from Symbiosis, and a PhD and CA in 1983. And has come a long way since. "Teaching was a love I found by fluke." In early stages of his career, with too much free time on his hands, he began teaching finance in Ness Wadia and SIBM. With reducing time availibility, his teaching in colleges also stopped but this love fond a better focus in corporate training. Starting off as seminars, they made complete course material akin to that of a college syllabus and made it into a 2 ½ month comprehensive course conducted thrice a week early in the morning for corporates from 1990 - now it has had a continuous run and have recently completed 50 back to back runs. With this they have also come out with a twin video cassette package for a wider reach to people. They are also hoping to come out with a range of cassettes providing a distance learning course on finance hoping for a tie up with an American University.
Besides hitting big time in corporate training Lamcon is basically a CA firm which got involved in so many other activities that by 1990 they decided to diversify. Now they’re into market research, public opinion polls, company formation, investment counseling, feasibilities and even event management. "The last we started in 1992 just before the Harshad Mehta scam. It wads a time of booming financial markets and lucrative investment options. For the customers, especially there was a lot of confusion, so we decided to hold an exhibition of financial products inviting all major financial institutions and conducting a series of seminars alongside- which has now become popular as Invest Fest. Because of the immense feedback it received I can proudly say that we put Pune on the India’s financial map."

That’s enough about his work , what about him as a person? It is obvious he’s in love with his work. All charged up radiating energy, does he ever unwind?" I like to sketch although I do only cartoons now. Also like to read. And listening to saaaad music- like the slower ghazals etc." His support and inspiration comes from his wife Nikki and now 4 1/2 year old Mehek and 6 month old Vedaant complete the picture." About what lies next in store, he says, "The internet has opened so many possibilities. We are looking at avenues like online training, organizing an interface of venture finance companies and IT professional.  All I can say is that when you go to bed at night waiting for the next day to start ,there is not much more you can ask for."
